Joan Herbig

Joan E. Herbig - Chief Executive Officer

Joan E. Herbig has more than 20 years' experience in the high-tech industry. She has held many roles throughout her career and has built companies that have been recognized for supplying high-quality products and services, delivering outstanding customer support and undergoing robust business growth. By surrounding herself with experienced, trusted executives, Ms. Herbig has led previous companies to successful outcomes.

Named CEO of ControlScan® in late 2007, Ms. Herbig is responsible for the company's overall business operations and is focused on growing the company's revenues and expanding its position as a leader in PCI compliance and data security for small- to mid-sized merchants. Since her hiring by ControlScan's original institutional investor, TTV Capital, Ms. Herbig has built a team of technology and payment card industry veterans who have successfully grown the company over 40 percent each year since it entered the PCI market in 2008. Under Ms. Herbig's direction, ControlScan has transitioned to become a top-3 provider of full-service PCI programs with a reputation for Level 4 (SMB) merchant expertise and high-touch customer service.

Prior to joining ControlScan, Ms. Herbig was CEO of Cambia Security, Inc., a leading provider of configuration management tools for compliance with PCI, GLBA, HIPAA, SOX and other regulatory standards, until its acquisition by nCircle Security in April 2007. Prior to Cambia, Ms. Herbig also served as CEO of XcelleNet, Inc., an industry leader in mobile device systems management, which was acquired by Sybase in May 2004. Prior to that, Ms. Herbig held several positions at Digital Communications Associates (DCA) from 1987-1995, including Senior Product Line Manager responsible for marketing and product management.

A long-standing contributor to the Georgia technology community, Ms. Herbig currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Technology Association of Georgia (TAG), and served as its Chairman in 2008. During her tenure as Chairman of TAG, the organization experienced significant growth in membership and launched a government relations initiative to drive increased federal and state awareness around technology-related legislation. In 2011 and 2012, Ms. Herbig chaired the Entrepreneurial Taskforce at TAG and led the 2011 and 2012 TAG/GRA Business Launch Plan Competitions.

Ms. Herbig currently also serves on the Board of Directors for both the Electronic Transactions Association (ETA), an international trade association representing companies who offer electronic transaction processing products and services, and The Women's Network in Electronic Transactions (W.net), the premier electronic transactions organization dedicated solely to women in the field. She has authored articles for recognized payments industry publications including Transaction Trends, The Green Sheet and Electronic Retailer.

Ms. Herbig earned an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Kentucky following a B.A. in French from the University of Louisville. Her professional honors include her 2011 induction into the University of Kentucky's College of Engineering Hall of Distinction and in 2001 she was named Woman of the Year in Technology by Georgia-based Women in Technology (WIT).

John Fasano – Chief Financial Officer

John brings more than 20 years of finance, accounting and merger and acquisition experience in the electronic payments and financial services industries. Named Chief Financial Officer, John is responsible for all financial functions, including internal and Board reporting, risk management, and financial decision support to the organization. John will also play a key role in the development of ControlScan’s corporate strategy. John joins ControlScan, Inc. most recently from FirstView, LLC where he was Chief Financial Officer. Prior to joining FirstView, John worked for Elavon, Inc., where he held leadership positions during his tenure, most recently as Senior Vice President of Finance. In addition, John spent several years consulting in the payments industry and worked for Ernst & Young (E&Y) accounting firm in Los Angeles, California and Knoxville, Tennessee.

John is a member of the Technology Association of Georgia (TAG) and the Kettering Executive Network (KEN). He received his Bachelor of Science – Accounting from California Lutheran University, and received Certified Public Accountant certificates in California and Tennessee.

Jethro J. Felton, III

Jethro J. Felton, III - Executive Vice President of Sales & Business Development

Jethro has over 25 years experience in the software industry with a proven track record of success. At ControlScan, Jethro is focused on accelerating the company’s growth as a PCI compliance solutions provider through development of strategic business partnerships, best-practices in sales and management of on-going customer relationships.  Prior to joining ControlScan, Jethro led sales and business development at Cambia.  He built a geographically dispersed sales team and under his leadership the company was able to sell its configuration auditing and compliance solution to major enterprises throughout North America.  Cambia was acquired by nCircle Network Security in May of 2007.

Before his tenure at Cambia, Jethro was Sr. VP of Worldwide Sales and Business Development at XcelleNet, Inc. During his 12-year tenure at XcelleNet (which was acquired by Sybase in May, 2004), he also held various positions including VP, North American Sales and had other sales and business development responsibilities.  He was a founding partner of Catalysta Partners, LLC, a consultancy focused on helping early stage technology companies launch and grow their revenue generation efforts. In his early career, Felton held various sales management and sales positions with NDC, Triad Systems and ICL.  

Jethro is an active member of the Georgia technology community and holds a BBA from the University of Georgia.

Heather Foster

Heather Varian Foster - Vice President of Marketing

Heather has more than 15 years of experience in sales and marketing management. Named Vice President of Marketing in December 2007, Heather is responsible for defining and executing ControlScan marketing strategies, initiatives and operational plans to support corporate revenue and profitability objectives.

Prior to joining ControlScan, Foster served as director of Marketing for KnowledgeStorm (acquired by TechTarget in November 2007), an online lead generation service for B2B technology vendors. She also served for several years as director of Marketing for Reed Construction Data, a division of Reed Business Information, a B2B lead generation service for the construction industry; and Regional Sales and Marketing manager for Oil-Dri Corporation of America. 

Foster sits on the Board of Directors and Executive Advisory Board of the Atlanta chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA) as a Past President. She serves on the Education Committee of the Electronic Transactions Association as well as the Marketing Committee of the Merchant Acquirers’ Committee. Foster is also an active member of the Technology Association of Georgia (TAG) FinTech Steering Committee. She is a graduate of Georgia Southern University, where she earned bachelor degrees in History and English.

Steve Robb

Steve Robb - Senior Vice President of Products and Services

Steve Robb joined ControlScan in January of 2009 as Vice President of Operations and assumed the responsibility of Senior Vice President of Products and Services in February of 2012. In his current role, he is responsible for leading the product strategy and development efforts within the company, as well as the delivery of professional services. Just prior to ControlScan, Steve led the software development operations of over 30 different product groups for Infor Global Solutions, a $2.2 billion acquirer and consolidator of business software applications.  In a subsequent role at Infor, he led all operational aspects of the company’s inside sales functions, whose revenues grew over 425% in a six-month period.  Beyond Infor, Steve’s experience spans a range of functions including Marketing, Customer Service & Support, Product Management and Professional Services for companies such as Accenture, RR Donnelley & Sons, XcelleNet and Sybase.

Steve holds a BSEE from the University of Michigan and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University.

Sean Banks - Partner, TTV

Sean joined TTV in 2002 as a summer associate and returned to TTV in 2005.  He currently serves as partner and has more than seven years of venture capital experience.  Prior to joining TTV, Sean served as the vice president of finance and general counsel for an Atlanta start-up company. Sean is currently a member of the Technology Association of Georgia’s executive steering committee for its FinTech Georgia initiative and he heads up the FinTech Innovation Institute for that group.  He also is a member of the Southern Capital Conference executive steering committee and a member of the Venture Atlanta selection committee.

Sean earned his MBA in 2003 from the Goizueta Business School at Emory University where he was one of five Woodruff Fellows. He is currently a member of the Georgia Bar Association, having earned his J.D. at the University of San Diego in 2001. He is a 1996 graduate of the United States Naval Academy, where he earned a B.S. in economics.  For TTV, he has previously served on the board of directors for Interactive Advisory Software and Avalon International (acquired by Bluepoint Solutions), currently serves on the board of directors of ControlScan and CRE Secure and is an observer on the board of directors for FX Bridge and eWise.

Mark A. Johnson - Chairman of ControlScan’s Board of Directors and Partner, TTV

Mark joined TTV as a partner in 2008. He is the former vice chairman of CheckFree. His responsibilities included overseeing mergers and acquisitions, evaluating strategic growth opportunities for the company, developing strategic corporate relationships and supporting long-term business strategies. He was also a member of the CheckFree board of directors.

Mark first joined CheckFree in 1982 as vice president of operations. He held numerous positions within the organization and was responsible for the development and launch of CheckFree’s commercial and consumer electronic funds transfer services and electronic bill payment and bill presentment businesses as well as the development of key strategic alliances and marketing initiatives.

In 2000, he left his position as vice chairman of corporate development and marketing to form e-RM Ventures, a private investing consultancy focused on early stage payments-related companies. He continued to work with CheckFree executive management on strategic issues through his board of director position, and returned to CheckFree as vice chairman in February 2003.

Prior to joining CheckFree, Mark worked for the Federal Reserve Bank and Bank One. He currently serves on a number of private companies’ boards of directors and he is currently the chairman of Venture Atlanta, and on the board of directors of the Technology Association of Georgia where in 2007 he was chairman. Mark holds an undergraduate degree from Miami University and an M.B.A. from the Ohio State University. 

Mark serves on the board of Bill.com, Cardlytics, ControlScan, FX Bridge and IAS.

John J. McDonnell Jr. – Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Phoenix Managed Networks

A serial entrepreneur, John J. McDonnell, Jr. most recently served as Chairman and CEO of terminal solutions provider Exadigm. Until October 2006, he was Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of TNS Inc., the transaction communications company he founded in 1990, and sold to PSINet Inc. in November 1999, only to reacquire it from PSINet in 2001.

Between tours at TNS, Mr. McDonnell was Chief Executive Officer of PaylinX Corporation ("PaylinX"), which was sold to Cybersource in September 2000. Mr. McDonnell has served on the Cybersource board of directors ever since. Mr. McDonnell also serves on the Board of Directors of DealerTrack Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:TRAK) as well as several privately held companies. Mr. McDonnell is one of the founding members of the Electronics Funds Transfer Association. Mr. McDonnell holds a BEE from Manhattan College and an MEE from Rensselaer Polytechnic University.

Thomas D. Roberts III – Partner, Harbert Management Corporation

Thomas D. Roberts III joined HMC in 2002. Mr. Roberts serves on the boards of Clarabridge, JackBe and WindChannel Communications. He was formerly a board member of Agility Healthcare Solutions, which was acquired by GE Healthcare in 2008. He is also a member of the steering committee of the Mid-Atlantic Venture Association Capital Connection Conference, the selection committee for the Florida Venture Forum and a board member of The Virginia Biosciences Development Center and the Virginia Biotechnology Association. Before joining HMC, Mr. Roberts was a senior investment banker for Wachovia, where he executed public and private equity and M&A advisory transactions for clients in the healthcare, technology and telecom sectors. He was a founding member of Wachovia’s Technology Investment Banking Group. Prior to investment banking, he was with Markowitz & McNaughton, a strategy consulting firm, specializing in competitive analysis, market opportunity assessment, benchmarking and acquisition buy-side search and due diligence services. He holds a Master of Business Administration degree and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Virginia.
