You may or may not know that ControlScan has been headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia since our 2005 inception. More specifically, we are located in the suburb of Alpharetta, which is known as a hotbed for FinTech and payments companies.

But while many associate Georgia with innovation and expansion in the payments space—more than 70% of America’s payment transactions are processed by companies in Atlanta and around Georgia—the Georgia information security landscape is also a boon for the state’s economy.

In its new industry report, “2020 State of Georgia’s Information Security and Cybersecurity Ecosystem,” the Technology Association of Georgia (TAG) lists more than 75 InfoSec products and services companies that call Georgia home. Together, these companies and others like them generate over $1.4 billion in annual revenue and employ more than 6,700 network and computer system engineers alone.

In Georgia, information security and payments go hand in hand.

The payments industry has a significant stake in security. The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) was created to help combat payment data breaches, but many businesses still leave cardholder data under-protected. To this day, payment card data continues to be an easy grab and of the greatest value to cybercriminals.

Cybercriminals’ tactics and tools are only increasing in sophistication. This business reality requires payments and FinTech companies to continually reassess their ability to secure not only their own businesses, but their customers’ businesses as well. ControlScan solves for this by expertly combining PCI DSS compliance programs and managed security solutions like firewalls and endpoint protection. In doing so, we simultaneously help mitigate cybersecurity risk and reduce compliance complexity so our customers can focus on their core offerings. (See a real-life payments example here.)
